Uncovering the mystery of the Fifth Sage in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is one of the most rewarding main quests in the game. While players are initially guided toward the four regional phenomena, a hidden ally remains waiting to be discovered high above the clouds and deep within the Depths. Finding this missing ally requires following a specific sequence of story events that take Link across the realm of Hyrule.
Prerequisites for Unlocking the Search
Before you can properly initiate the quest for the Fifth Sage, you must complete the primary storyline objectives regarding the four main regional temples. After restoring peace to the Rito, Goron, Zora, and Gerudo regions, you will be directed back to Lookout Landing to investigate events at Hyrule Castle. Concluding this dramatic encounter reveals crucial details that set the stage for finding the final companion.
Once the castle investigation is finished, Purah will advise you to investigate ancient ruins scattered across the land. This shifts your attention toward Kakariko Village, where a previously restricted Zonai ruin holds the key to starting your search. Interacting with the characters researching these ruins opens up the official questline required to progress.
Investigating the Ring Ruins in Kakariko Village
To begin the journey in earnest, travel to Kakariko Village and speak with Tauro and Paya near the central Ring Ruins. With the earlier story events cleared, you will finally receive permission to explore the interior of the floating ring structure. Using the Ascend ability allows you to step inside and take a photograph of the ancient Zonai inscription hidden within.
Showing this photograph to Tauro deciphering the text will direct your attention south toward the Faron region. Following Tauro to the Dracozu River in the Faron Woods leads to a puzzle involving the charged armor set. Solving this riddle triggers a powerful thunderstorm that clears the dense cloud cover obscuring the skies above the Faron region.
Journeying to the Thunderhead Isles and Dragonhead Island
With the storm clouds parted, use the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower to launch yourself high into the sky realm. Navigate through the floating landmasses known as the Thunderhead Isles toward the far southern end of the chain. You will eventually arrive at Dragonhead Island, where a sealed shrine door requires at least ten heart containers to open.
Passing through the heavy door reveals a mysterious Zonai relic that emits a beam of light. Interacting with this relic initiates the official Secret of the Ring Ruins quest and instructs Link to guide the object into the depths below. Following the light beam down into the Depths leads directly to the Tobio's Hollow Chasm and the construct factory.
Assembling Mineru in the Spirit Temple
Upon reaching the Tobio's Hollow Chasm, place the relic onto the pedestal at the center of the subterranean facility. The voice of Mineru, the Sage of Spirit, will instruct you to retrieve four distinct body parts from surrounding manufacturing depots. Navigating each depot requires solving mechanical puzzles involving Zonai devices to transport the arms and legs back to the main chamber.
After attaching all four components to the central frame, Mineru's construct becomes fully functional and rideable. You must then pilot the construct through the Depths to reach the Spirit Temple located nearby. Defeating the Seized Construct boss at the temple restores Mineru's spirit, officially granting you the Vow of the Spirit and completing your search for the Fifth Sage.
